Thermal Management Products – How Do They Work?
Thermal management is the process of controlling temperature inside electrical enclosures and control panels to ensure safe, reliable operation.
Electrical components naturally generate heat during operation. If that heat is not controlled, it can lead to:
- Reduced Performance
- Premature Component Failure
- Increased Energy Consumption
- Safety Risks such as overheating or Fire
ETE’s thermal management range is designed to remove excess heat, regulate temperature, and control humidity within these environments.
Core Principle: Heat Control
All ETE thermal management products work using three fundamental heat transfer methods:
- Convection (airflow): Removing heat using moving air
- Conduction: Transferring heat away through materials
- Environmental Control: Preventing Moisture and Condensation
The primary focus is airflow and environmental control inside enclosures.
How our products work
Our range includes a complete system of products that work together to maintain optimal conditions.
Cooling Fans (AC/DC Axial Fans)
Function: Remove heat from inside enclosures
How they work:
- Fans Draw in cooler ambient air
- Push hot air out of enclosure
- Maintain Continuous airflow to prevent heat build-up
Result:
- Stable internal temperatures
- Prevention of overheating
- Improved equipment efficiency
These are the primary active cooling requirements.
Filter Fans & Exhaust Filters
Function: provide clean controlled airflow
How they work:
- Filter fans pull fresh air into the enclosure through a filter
- Filters remove dust and contaminants
- Exhaust filters allow hot air to exit while maintaining protection ratings (e.g. IP54)
Result:
- Clean airflow without contamination
- Protection of sensitive electronics
- Consistent cooling performance
Roof Fans & Top Ventilators
Function: Enhance natural heat removal
How they work:
- Installed on top of enclosures where heat naturally rises
- Extract hot air efficiently from the highest point
Result:
- Faster heat dissipation
- Improved airflow efficiency
- Ideal for high heat loads
Thermostats
Function: Intelligent temperature control
How they work:
- Monitor internal temperature
- Automatically switch fans or heaters ON/OFF at preset thresholds
Available as:
- Normally Open (cooling)
- Normally Closed (heating)
- Dual-function units
Result:
- Automated temperature regulation
- Energy efficiency (systems only run when needed)
- Protection against overheating or overcooling
Hygrostats
Function: Control humidity levels
How they work:
- Detect moisture levels in the enclosure
- Activate heaters when humidity rises above a set point
Result:
- Prevention of condensation
- Protection against corrosion and short circuits
Anti-Condensation Heaters
Function: Prevent Moisture build-up
How they work:
- Use controlled heat (via PTC heating elements) to raise internal temperature slightly
- This reduces relative humidity and prevents condensation forming on components
Result:
- Dry internal environment
- Reduced risk of electrical failure
- Increased equipment lifespan
How the System Works Together
ETE products are most effective when used as a complete thermal management system:
- Fans & ventilators → remove excess heat
- Filters → ensure clean airflow
- Thermostats → control temperature automatically
- Hygrostats & heaters → prevent moisture and condensation
Together, they create a stable internal climate inside electrical enclosures.
